Clippers Buzz the Eagles’ Nest in Biggest Step Toward Another Undefeated EOAC Title

One in twenty-eight. What is significant about this? That is the number of runs in the number of innings that the Clippers’ pitching duo of Alex Eusebio and Devin Daugherty have allowed in the last two years (four games) against EOAC rival, the United Golden Eagles. For the last four seasons, the baseball championship title in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference has come down to a battle of two teams, Columbiana and United. In 2021 (the freshman year of this year’s seniors), the Clippers prevailed in a pair of 3-2 victories en route to the title. In 2022, we dropped the pair of matchups. In 2023, we bounced back and won both matchups backed by strong outings from Eusebio and Daugherty.

This year, the matchups were still backed by phenomenal outings from Alex and Devin, but their roles flipped this season. In 2023, it was Eusebio who went down to Hanoverton and threw a 1-0 shutout. This year, it was Daugherty who did the very same thing.

On Wednesday, things were a little less tense, as the Clippers, relative to Monday, cruised to a 7-0 victory with Eusebio on the bump. Following a scare in the first three innings in Lisbon on Tuesday, the Clippers really got the bats going in the second half of the game against the Blue Devils. This momentum carried into Wednesday, as we came out and scored two runs in each of the first two innings. We would add on three more in between the fifth and sixth innings on the road to securing at least a share of the 2024 EOAC title. Eusebio got his fifth win of the season, allowing just three hits and one walk, while striking out FOURTEEN Golden Eagles.

Seniors Ian Less and Devin Daugherty each had two hits (Less with a triple and single, Daugherty with a double and single). Fellow seniors Alex Eusebio and Dylan Hogan had singles, and each of them logged two RBIs. Another senior, Colin Keleman had an RBI, as did junior Reese Roush and freshman Avery Young.

We will look to finish out our second consecutive undefeated EOAC title against East Palestine this coming week, before heading into the state tournament the following week.
