McElwain No-Hits Southern as Clippers Take Over 1st in EOAC

Columbiana (5-0, 2-0 EOAC) knocked off Southern Local (3-3, 3-1) by a 27-0 score on a rainy Monday afternoon at Firestone Park.  The put the Clippers in sole possession of first place in the league early on in the season.

Riley McElwain (2-0) struck out 12 in five innings of work to complete the no hitter for the Clippers. McElwain has now struck out 26 batters in 10 innings of work on the young season.

Columbiana got on the board early and never looked back.  Zachary Pleska hit a one out pitch over the left field fence to give the Clippers the 1-0 lead.  Seth Spooner wasted no time taking the next pitch deep over the left center wall making the score 2-0.  Columbiana would tack on two more in the first followed by 15 in the second, six in the third and two in the fourth.

Devin Daugherty had a big day at the plate 4-4 with two doubles and three RBI.  McElwain also had two hits including a double.  Carson Dota and Bayden Pipoly also added two-baggers for the Clippers.

Maxx Grommes and Matteo Mazzotta each collected their first varsity hit.

Columbiana is back in action tomorrow night as the Clippers will travel to Struthers to take on Ursuline at Cene Park.  First pitch is scheduled for 7 PM on Cene 3.
