On a beautiful St. Patricks day, EBC contender, the Marlington Dukes visited Firestone park to take on the Clippers. Pitching was the theme of the day as both squads saw excellent performances on the mound. In all, the two teams were able to play 9 innings in 2 1/2 hours of well played baseball. There were growing pains for both teams but in all it was a very valuable day for both teams.
Pitching two innings each for Columbiana were Riley McElwain (3 K’s), Seth Spooner (3 K’s), Zachary Pleska (2 K’s) and Alex Eusebio (1 K). Devin Daugherty also added tossed an inning and added two more strikeouts for the Clippers.
The scrimmage was a good opportunity for the Clippers to work on various aspects of its defense game as Marlington touts a stout lineup requiring Columbiana to really think ahead pitch by pitch.
Columbiana will have two more opportunities to improve on the diamond in a scrimmage format this coming week as Monday they will take on another EBC favorite, the Salem Quakers. Exhibition season will wrap up on Wednesday against Waterloo.
