Clips are Champs!! Defeat United 3-2 to Earn EOAC Championship

Box Score

The Columbiana Clippers (16-6, 11-0 EOAC) clinched the outright Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference championship tonight with a 3-2 victory over United in Hanoverton.

United jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first but the Clippers quickly answered back with one in the top of the 2nd.  Logan Hoschar would reach on an infield single and then steal second base.  Carson Dota followed with a line drive single to left to bring in Hoschar to cut the lead in half.

Alex Eusebio led off the third inning with a triple to right field.  After a strikeout, Zachary Pleksa launched a 1-2 pitch over the left centerfield fence for his second homerun of the season giving the Clippers a 3-2 lead.

Three runs was all Columbiana would need as Eusebio and Seth Spooner would shut the Golden Eagles down the rest of the way.  Eusebio (4-2) picked up the victory pitching five solid innings allowing two runs (0 earned) on one hit striking out seven.  Spooner earned his first save of the year shutting the door on United in his two innings of work.  Spooner allowed a lead off single in the sixth inning, but would promptly strike out the next six batters he faced to close out the game.

Columbiana will next be in action on Thursday when Hubbard visits Firestone Park.  First pitch is scheduled for 5 PM.
