Columbiana (8-4, 6-0 EOAC) took sole possession of first place in the EOAC defeating Lisbon (5-6, 5-1) 4-0 Sunday afternoon at Canal Park in Akron.
Columbiana pounded out 10 hits and drew five walks but managed only four runs due to some timely defense by the Blue Devils. Twice Lisbon was able to end innings with the bases loaded on double plays to stop any rally by the Clippers. However, one run was all Columbiana needed as Zach Pleska threw a gem in his five innings of work. Pleska (2-0) allowed only two hits while striking out 10 and walking five. Logan Hoschar would close out the last two innings not giving up a hit and striking out one in the victory.
Offensively, Trevor Dearing and Tyler Andersen each had two hits and Cameron Sloan reached base four times including a single, two walks and a hit by pitch. Seth Spooner doubled for Columbiana.
Columbiana and Lisbon will close out their two game series on Tuesday at Firestone Park. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
