Columbiana (17-10) hosted the Western Reserve Blue Devils on Saturday to close out the 2021 season at Firestone Park. The Clippers were led by an outstanding pitching performance from Logan Hoschar and timely hitting in the first two innings for a 6-0 victory over the Blue Devils.
Columbiana got on the board early in the first inning scoring two runs. Bayden Pipoly led off the game with a double down the right field line. Zach Pleska immediately followed with a book rule double over the left center field fence giving the Clippers and early 1-0 lead. Brady Dixon’s single down the left field line scored Pleksa making the score 2-0.
In the second inning Columbiana would tack on three more. Joe Wilczak walked and Tyler Andersen singled. Eddie Clancy then took a two strike pitch deep to right field that resulted in a two base error scoring Wilczak and putting runners on second and third. With two outs, Seth Spooner hit a seeing eye single up the middle scoring two and giving the Clippers a 5-0 lead.
Columbiana would add one more run in the sixth. Tyler Andersen walked and eventually would advance to third on two wild pitches. Dan Wilczak’s RBI single gave the Clippers the 6-0 final margin.
One run was all that Hoschar needed though as he was dominate throughout. Hoschar struck out a career high 14 to earn his third victory of the year. Hoschar would scatter three hits and three walks throughout the 106 pitch effort.
Columbiana finishes the season at 17-10 including an undefeated league record and an EOAC Championship. Western Reserve will face Jackson Milton on Tuesday in a District Semifinal at Fairport Harbor.
