Columbiana (7-1, 5-0 EOAC) picked up a 6-2 victory over Southern Local (6-5, 2-2) on Wednesday afternoon.
The Clippers started off hot scoring three runs in the first inning. Logan Hoschar reached on an error and moved to third on the first of Zachary Pleska’s three doubles on the day. Hoschar would score on a Brady Dixon groundout to make the score 1-0 Columbiana. Seth Spooner would then step up to the plate and rocketed one out of the ball park in left center field for a two-run homerun giving Columbiana a 3-0 lead.
Southern would claw their way back in the second scoring two runs but two plays at the plate resulting in outs would stall any comeback for the Indians.
Columbiana was able to tack on two more runs in the third and another in the fourth for the final margin of victory.
In addition to Pleska’s three doubles, Bayden Pipoly picking up two hits including a double and Riley McElwain also doubled.
Freshman Devin Daugherty (1-0) picked up his first varsity win for the Clippers going four innings allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits. Daugherty struck out six in the contest. Spooner pitched two scoreless innings followed by a 1-2-3 seventh for Riley McElwain.
Columbiana is back in action tomorrow at Firestone Park. The Clippers take on Boardman at 5 PM.
