JV Squad Takes Back to Back

The junior varsity team has won back to back games (last Thursday against Beaver Local and Saturday against United). These wins improved the JV squad’s record to 6-7.

Thursday’s win over Beaver Local was of the “extra inning” variety after the varsity game. These are innings played until dark at the conclusion of the evening’s varsity game… In the two extra innings that were played, the Clippers won 6-3. Freshman Beckett Wilson got the start and went both innings, earning the win. He gave up just 1 earned run, while striking out 3 Beavers. Leading the way at the plate was freshman Eric Nelson. Eric had 2 hits, an RBI, and scored a run. Sophomore Drennen Bosela had a hit, an RBI, and scored a run. Wilson helped his own cause with a hit, an RBI, and a run. Sophomore Nick Klindworth had a hit and a run. And, sophomore Rocco Mediate and freshman Thatcher Smith each scored a run.

Saturday’s win came on the heels of a tough varsity loss. This win came in the form of a mercy rule, 14-4, over the United Golden Eagles. Six Clippers recorded a hit in the contest, with two of those being doubles from sophomores Drennen Bosela and Rocco Mediate. Freshman Ethan Lehnerd also logged a hit, 2 RBI, and scored to a run. The starting pitcher for the Clippers, freshman Thatcher Smith helped himself with a hit for himself and getting hit with three pitches. Smith had an RBI and scored 2 runs. Junior Trey Snyder had a single, an RBI, and scored a run. Freshman Eric Nelson had a single and scored 2 runs; he also got hit with multiple pitches. Senior William Bucci logged an RBI. As mentioned, freshman Thatcher Smith took the ball for the Clippers and went 4 strong innings, allowing just 3 earned runs and striking out 11 Golden Eagles to earn the win. Sophomore Nick Klindworth came on to close out the final two innings of the six inning run-rule game. Nick gave up 0 earned runs and struck out 2.

The JV squad was supposed to be in action yesterday against Salem, but the game was canceled due to field conditions. They will be back in action tomorrow at home against Lake Center Christian (a rematch of May 2nd’s 10-inning game) at 5:00 PM.
