After two early season losses to East Palestine, we knew that the only chance we were going to have at retaining our EOAC title was to run the table. And, here we are, after a huge win down at United on Monday, with an opportunity at a share of the league title with just one more win.
In an all-around team effort, it was senior Reese Roush who took the mound for the Clippers in his sixth start of the season. Going 5 strong innings, Reese allowed just 3 earned runs, striking out 4 Eagles in his fourth win of the year. Reese then turned things over to junior Sam Inboden and sophomore Avery Young to close out the monumental 11-6 victory.
Roush not only threw a great game, but he also had a fantastic day at the plate. With 3 separate RBI singles, including one to put us in front in the very first inning and another to tie it up in the third, it was a career day for the senior. Sophomore Avery Young also had a solid day at the plate, with two hits including a big 2-RBI double to put use ahead for good in the fourth inning. Young also stole 3 bases in the contest, which put his season total at 34, tying the school record for steals in a season (set by Alan Kail in 1993).
The Clippers showed great patience at the plate and drew 12 walks (3 by freshman catcher Liam McElwain) in all on the evening, doubling up those allowed by our own pitchers. And, we also played overall solid defense, including a runner caught stealing by McElwain.
ON THE MOUND: Senior Reese Roush (W), 5.0 IP, 3 ER, 4 Ks… Junior Sam Inboden, 1.1 IP, 0 ER, 2 Ks… Sophomore Avery Young, 0.2 IP, 0 ER, 1 K.
Weather permitting, the Clippers will welcome to the Eagles to Legion Field at Firestone Park on Wednesday at 5:00 PM for a shot at a share of the EOAC title #fightANDflight
