Offensive Ambush Leads Clips Over Southern

One common theme from the 2025 season so far is that when the Clippers score runs, those runs are scored in bunches. And that did not change on Wednesday evening at Southern Local. After going down 4-1 early on, the bear got poked in the bottom of the third inning, and the top of fourth began a maul. The Clippers would score 17 runs across the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings to pull away with a 18-4 mercy rule victory.

Junior Sam Inboden got the start for the Clips, and after taking a moment to literally find his footing on an unfamiliar turf mound, locked things down over the course of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings to earn the win. Senior Daniel Goehring would come on in the 6th to put an end to things.

Four Clippers had a pair a hits, headlined by freshman catcher Liam McElwain who drove in four RBIs in the contest. Senior Reese Roush brought in three runs himself, for the Clips. We stole 8 bases on the day.

ON THE MOUND: Junior Sam Inboden (W), 5.0 innings, 2 hits, 7 strikeouts, 2 earned runs… Senior Daniel Goehring, 1.0 inning, 0 hits, 2 strikeouts, 0 earned runs.

AT THE PLATE: Freshman Liam McElwain, 2 hits, including a double, 4 RBIs, 4 runs… Sophomore Avery Young, 2 hits, 2 RBIs, 3 runs… Freshman Ethan Lehnerd, 2 hits, including a double, an RBI, 3 runs… Senior Zane Strohecker, 2 hits, 2 runs… Senior Reese Roush, a hit, 3 RBIs… Junior Hunter Davanzo, a hit, an RBI, a run… Senior Daniel Goehring, a hit, a run… Senior Max Conway and junior Sam Inboden each logged an RBI and a run, while senior Blake Unger scored a pair of runs.

The varsity squad will be back in action this evening at Howland at 5:30. While the JV team will be back out there tomorrow evening at Lake Center Christian, after suffering a hard fought loss last evening to Hubbard.
