After picking up a much needed win on Wednesday evening over Leetonia, the Clippers looked to make it two in a row on Thursday night at home against Beaver Local; and that we did. Far and away our best overall offensive performance of the season in terms of hits, we racked up 16 knocks. It did take a minute to really get things strung together, starting in a 2-1 hole, but much like Wednesday night, it would be the fourth inning when the Clipper bats caught fire. Scoring 6 runs on 6 hits in the fourth inning alone, we jumped out to a commanding 7-2 lead before coming within two feet of ending it in the fifth, scoring 4 more runs on 4 hits. Junior Hunter Davanzo hit a ball to left that came up just short of a mercy-rule walk-off home run. The Clippers came away with a win by a final of 11-2 in 7 innings. Sophomore Avery Young was very good on the bump, going the distance to earn the win; a day after he earned his first career save. Young only allowed 4 hits, surrendering just 1 earned run, while striking out 8 Beavers. Senior Reese Roush had the Clippers’ first 4 hit game of the season, among 5 players that had multiple hits.
ON THE MOUND: Sophomore Avery Young (W), 7.0 innings, 8 strikeouts, 1 earned run.
AT THE PLATE: Senior Reese Roush, 4 hits, 2 RBIs… Junior Sam Inboden, 3 hits, including a double, a run… Senior Max Conway, 2 hits, including a double, 2 RBIs, 3 runs… Junior Hunter Davanzo, 2 hits, including a double, 2 RBIs… Senior Daniel Goehring, 2 hits, an RBI, a run… Senior Zane Strohecker and freshman Liam McElwain each had a hit, an RBI, and a run… Sophomore Avery Young, a hit, 2 runs… Senior Blake Unger and sophomore Rocco Mediate each scored a run.
