Masters, Phenomenal in Biggest JV Win of the Season

After a great performance from sophomore Sam Inboden on Tuesday against Lake Center Christian (a game in which the Clippers came up just short), freshman David Masters came back out on Friday and was phenomenal against Alliance. Masters, who has had a great year on the mound already, saved his best performance for last. Don’t be deceived by the six runs scored in the 10-6 victory; ZERO of those runs were earned. David, while pitching to his older brother and catcher, Eli Masters, struck out nine Aviators. This was a great game for David to hang his hat on going into next year.

At the plate, freshman Nick Klindworth got the Clippers on the board with an RBI single down the right field line in the first inning. In the second, freshman Trenton Hall knocked in a run with a single. Junior Eli Masters hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning to bring in a run. Then, in the fifth, while down 6-4, the Clippers would come back to knot it up at 6-6, thanks to: a freshman Rocco Mediate walk, a freshman Avery Young sacrifice fly to score Mediate, a single from Eli Masters, and a single from sophomore Lucas Barber to score Masters.

It was the bottom of the sixth when the Clippers took control of the game for good. After a walk by junior Gavin Guy, freshman J.J. Tollas would come on to pinch run. He would come around to score the go-ahead run on a passed ball. Young would then single to score Mediate and Inboden, followed by another Eli Masters single to score Avery.

With a four run lead, David Masters went out to close his masterpiece by striking out two in the final frame, including the last batter. On the second to last day of the JV season, the young guys got their biggest win of the year. They will close out their season today with a doubleheader against Leetonia, starting at 11:00 AM.
