It took a minute, but the Columbiana bats finally came to life in the fifth inning of Monday’s matchup with EOAC opponent Southern Local. After four innings of some not-so-great at-bats, the Clippers only found themselves up 5-0 on the Indians. Those original five runs came via three walks, a hit by pitch, and hits from senior Colin Keleman (RBI single), freshman Avery Young (2-RBI single), senior Anthony Hall, senior Devin Daugherty (RBI double), and Keleman again (RBI single). Senior righty Alex Eusebio worked the first three innings of the game, keeping the Indians off of the board and not allowing a hit; striking out seven. Eusebio would ultimately earn the win for this performance as the game would only go five innings as the Clippers struck gold in the top half of the fifth inning; scoring thirteen runs in the frame, eleven of which came with two outs.
This fifth inning performance saw hits from Young (RBI single), senior Ian Less (RBI single), Eusebio (2-RBI double), Hall (RBI single), and Keleman (2-RBI double). Junior Eli Masters scored his first career run in the frame after drawing a walk.
The freshman Avery Young would close out the final two innings on the mound for the Clips, only allowing one hit and striking out five Indians. There were no walks issued by the Clippers on the day. Four Clippers had multiple stolen bags: Less, Hall, Young, and Keleman. We stole a total of twelve bases in the game.
