Clippers Play All Around Complete Game to Move to 3-1

Box Score

After an early afternoon schedule change, the Clippers (3-1) welcomed neighboring Heartland Christian (3-1) to Legion field for a non-conference game on a beautiful sunny Tuesday afternoon.

Alex Eusebio picked up his first varsity win with a complete game effort.  Eusebio allowed only one hit in his five innings of work striking out two.  The defense behind him was outstanding all day highlighted by big plays from Tyler Andersen and Logan Hoschar to close out frames with the Lions threatening.  Zachary Pleska made a diving catch in file territory to help stall a late Heartland rally in the seventh.

Offensively, the Clippers got off to a fast starting scoring three runs in the first inning followed by three in the second and six in the third.  The offense was highlighted by outstanding performances from Riley McElwain (3-4, 3 R, 1 RBI), Brady Dixon (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI), Seth Spooner (2-4, 2B, 3 RBI), Carson Dota (1-3, RBI) and Brady Kridler (1-2, HBP, RBI).  On the day Columbiana had 11 hits to go with the 13 runs.

Columbiana will travel to Leetonia on Wednesday to take on the Bears.  The game is a makeup from last weeks rainout.  First pitch is scheduled for 5 PM.
