Tyler Andersen knocked in Joe Wilczak in the bottom of the 9th inning on an infield single to give the Clippers White squad a 9-8 victory over visiting Garfield on Tuesday afternoon.
The Clippers looked in control most of the day cruising to an 8-1 lead in the 6th but some timely hitting by the G-Men and a few mistakes by the Clippers led to a 7 run sixth for Garfield and a tie game. Each teams pitching staff hunkered down the next couple of innings until the bottom of the 9th. Wilczak walked to lead off the frame and moved to second on a wild pitch. After a strike out and a line out the Trevor Dearing drew a walk which eventually lead to runners at second and third for Columbiana with two outs. Andersen stepped in and his ground ball up the middle turned into the winning run for Columbiana.
Offensively, Columbiana was led by Dearing who collected two hits, walked twice, scored two runs and collected two rbi. Additionally, Cam Sloan reached base four times including two hits. Andersen had two knocks including a double and Carson Dota also had two hits. Eddie Clancy doubled for the winners.
On the mound, Andersen got the start and wen three strong innings not allowed a hit while striking out six. Wilczak went the next five allowed five hits and 8 runs (0 earned) while striking out four. Clancy got the win for Columbiana with a scoreless 9th.
The Clippers White squad will be in action again on Friday as they will host Southern.
