After an almost 2 year hiatus the Columbiana Clippers (1-0, 1-0 EOAC) kicked off the 2021 season on a winning note with a 4-0 victory over the Leetonia Bears (0-1, 0-1 EOAC) at Firestone Park on Monday afternoon.
Riley McElwain (1-0) went the distance pitching seven scoreless innings while striking out 14 along the way. McElwain surrendered two hits and walked two in the victory.
The Clippers had 10 hits on the day but left 12 runners on base as Leetonia made key defensive plays in big situations all afternoon. Leading the way at the plate for Columbiana was Logan Hoschar who had 3 hits including a double and 1 RBI. Seth Spooner had a double, single and an RBI while Brady Dixon also collected 2 hits for Columbiana.
Columbiana will be back in action on Wednesday as the Clippers travel to Leetonia. First pitch is scheduled for 5 PM.
