Summer Clippers Come Out on Top

Box Score

As been accustomed to in the early season of the Mahoning Valley HS Summer Baseball Leauge the Summer Clippers and Salem Quakers battled until the end with the Clippers prevailing 4-3 with a walkoff in in the bottom of the seventh.

The game started off well for Columbiana as the Clippers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after only four pitches.  Bayden Pipoly led off the 1st with a single and was followed by Ryan Fahs who lined a single to right center.  Chase Franken stepped up to the plate next and launched a three-run home run down the right field line.  The Clippers bats would be stifled until the 7th inning when Fahs led off with a walk and would work his way to third on a couple balls in the dirt.  After a strike out, Brady Dixon stepped up to the plate with a plan, hitting a fly ball to right field that scored Fahs for the winning run.

Fahs also was stellar on the mound giving up only 1 run in four innings of work while striking out 4.  Trent Childers pitched two innings striking out 3 and Chase Franken would pitch the final frame striking out 3 and earning the victory.

At the plate, Fahs led the way with two hits while Carson Dota reached base twice picking up a single and was hit by a pitch.

Defensively the Clippers were solid all day.  Leading the way to help secure a victory were Logan Hoschar, Joey Wilczak, Trevor Dearing, Johnny Ervin, Blake Nusser, Dan Wilczak, Brady Kridler and Eddie Clancy.

The Summer Clippers will be back in action on Thursday as they head on the road for the first time this summer season to take on United at 6:00 PM at United High School.
