Beginning Sunday, I will be running a daily Senior Spotlight about our 8 seniors. Each day will highlight a senior and some of the accomplishments he has made throughout his high school career. The highlights will be run on the website with graphics also posted on Twitter and the Instagram account.
Matt is in his fourth year as a Clipper baseball player. As Matt has progressed through the program he has become more versatile adding outfield to his repertoire along with pitching and 1st base. Matt also has a lot of raw power at the plate and can go deep at any time.
Matt has excelled at Columbiana in many different sports. Matt played football his freshman year and then moved to golf earning 2nd team EOAC honors as a senior. Basketball is where Matt truly excelled helping lead the Clippers to an EOAC title this season as its big man. Matt earned many honors in basketball including 1st team EOAC as a junior and senior, 2nd team all county as a junior and 1st team all county as a senior and this past season he earned 3rd team Northeastern Inland District.
Matt has excelled in the classroom earning honor roll all through high school and being a member of the NHS. Matt plans to go to Youngstown State University this fall and major in Civil and Construction Engineering.
What Coach Wolf says:
“It has been a real pleasure getting to know Matt these past four years. Matt is the ultimate team player. Basketball has always been his calling, but he was ready and willing to do anything for the baseball team to help us win. I watched Matt play basketball many times and I really enjoyed seeing him grow as a player and person throughout the years. The more Matt plays the more confidence he gets and this past season he was a dominate player on the inside for the Clippers helping lead them to the league title and a sectional championship. Matt is one of the nicest kids I have been around and I feel lucky to have gotten to know him. I know he will be a huge success in his future at YSU.”
