Clippers Rally but Fall in Walkoff

Box Score

With the score 6-3 heading into the fifth inning and the umpires deciding it would be the last inning due to darkness the Columbiana Clippers (4-7) rallied to tie Western Reserve (6-2) 6-6 but fell in the bottom in the inning when Dallas Smith hit a 1 out bases loaded single over a drawn in outfield for the walkoff victory.

The 5th inning started with Chase Franken hitting a triple off the base of the fence.  AJ Perkins would then reach first on a hit by pitch.  Franken would score and Perkins would move to third after a failed pick off throw went up the line moving both runners.  After a fly out to center Erik Hopfenziz drilled a single up the middle to bring the score to 6-5.  Following another fly out, Hopfenziz was able to move to second on a wild pitch and would score on an rbi single by Tyler Andersen.  Andersen was eventually thrown out at 2nd as he tried to take an extra base following an errant throw by the Blue Devils.

On the day, Franken led the way offensively collecting 3 hits and scoring 2 runs.  Hopfenziz added a sacrifice fly in the first inning as part of his 2 rbi day.  Evan Kenneally also knocked in a run in the Clippers 3 run first inning with a single up the middle.  Michael Ginocchi continued to stay hot with a walk and a single on the afternoon.

Columbiana will look to battle the elements Thursday afternoon against Wellsville in EOAC action.  First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
