The Clippers (3-5) traveled to Austintown Thursday afternoon for the opening of Fitch’s brand new all turf Coppola Field and fell by a 16-4 score in five innings. The Falcons used a strong first and second inning to open up an 11 run lead and would never look back. Fitch’s Belcik, who also got the win on the mound, led the way with a 3 run homer in the first and a grand slam in the second.
The Clippers mounted a comeback in the top of the third, batting through the order and scoring 4 runs but it wasn’t quite enough. Leading the way offensively was Chase Franken who had two hits including a double in the first inning. Ryan Fahs added an rbi double in the third inning. Joe Bable and Michael Ginocchi each also singled for the Clippers.
Columbiana will be back in action on Friday as the Clippers head to Cene Park to take on the Springfield Tigers. First pitch is scheduled for 7 PM.
