Seniors Jake Clark, Mitch Davidson and Keenan Green helped lead the Columbiana Clippers (2-0, 1-0) to a 3-2 victory Monday night over Southern Local (0-1, 0-1) in an ITCL White Division match-up.
The game was tight throughout with two pitchers who plan to continue their careers in college on the mound. Clark and Indian pitcher Dominic Michael were both in mid season form each striking out 13 on the afternoon. Clark, however, was able to go the distance to get his first win of the season. On the afternoon, the Columbiana hurler gave up 2 runs (0 ER), 4 hits while walking only 2 in his 7 innings of work.
Heading into the bottom of the sixth inning the Clippers trailed the Indians 2-1 when Davidson led off the inning with a monster triple to deep centerfield. Green then stepped to the plate and knocked in his second run of the day with a sacrifice fly to right field tying the game at 2.
In the seventh, Seth Ross led off with a walk and moved to second on AJ Perkins’ sacrifice bunt. Following a Zach Fahs walk and a Chase Franken single the bases were loaded for Davidson to be the hero and he delivered with the walk off single to right.
On the day, Franken collected 3 hits while Davidson had 2 and Green knocked in a pair.
The Clippers and Indians will face off again Tuesday afternoon at Firestone Park. Mitch Davidson is scheduled to get the start for the Clippers. First pitch is 5 pm.
