The Columbiana Clippers fell to Crestview 6-5 in the OHSAA Sectional Final on Tuesday. The Clippers are now 14-9 on the season and will finish off the week with 5 more games.
Crestview jumped on Clipper starter Mitch Davidson (4-2) early, scoring 4 first inning runs with some timely hitting. A 4-0 lead seemed all that Rebel starter and OSU recruit Michael McDonough would need as he managed to control the Clippers in the early going. Down 5-0 Columbiana finally got things going in the 5th inning scoring 3 runs to bring the score to 5-3. Jake Clark got things started in the inning when he reached on an error. Seth Ross, following a Tim Davin and Josh Herbert single, was hit by a pitch bringing home the first run for Columbiana. After Davin was caught attempting to score on a wild pitch, Vince Vivo was hit by a pitch to load the bases again. Davidson then singled bringing home two more runs for the Clippers.
Crestview hit a solo home run in the bottom of the frame to move the score to 6-3. After a scoreless 6th inning for both squads the Clippers again rallied in the 7th. With one out Ross reached on an error and Vivo again was hit by a pitch. Davidson came to the plate and fought off a number of 2 strike pitches before lining a single to center scoring Ross. Keenan Green reached on an infield single to load the bases for the Clippers. Nate Armstrong brought home the 5th run with an RBI groundout, but that was all the Clippers had in store eventually falling by the 6-5 margin.
Columbiana will head to United tomorrow to take on the Eagles. The two clubs will finish the game started last week with Columbiana up 5-2 in the 4th inning and will follow with another full game.
