Clippers knock down Rockets with 6-3 victory

Box Score

Columbiana (13-8) broke a three game losing streak with a 6-3 victory over the Lowellville Rockets Friday afternoon.  Lowellville led most of the game before a 5 run sixth inning propelled the Clippers ahead and they were able to hold on for the victory.

Brandon Johnston got the start and pitched 3 innings giving up 3 runs (2 earned).  Jake Clark (4-3) picked up the victory in relief tossing 3 strong shutout innings while striking out 6 Rocket hitters.  Zach Fahs picked up his first varsity save pitching a scoreless 7th inning.

The breakout sixth inning started when Josh Herbert drew a leadoff walk.  Pinch runner Levi Birch stole second and scored on a double to center field by Tim Davin.  The Clippers would then load the bases and after a fielders choice got Davin at home, Mitch Davidson was able to tie the game with an RBI single. Fahs also scored on the play after an errant throw to give the Clippers the lead.

On the day, Davidson and Nate Armstrong each collected two hits.

The Clippers are off tomorrow and will play next Monday against Campbell Memorial in OHSAA tournament action.  The game will be played at Firestone Park with the first pitch scheduled for 4:30.
