Columbiana defeated Liberty 5-1 in game 1 and 15-2 in game two on Saturday afternoon. With the two wins the Clippers move to 6-3 on the season. The Clippers will take on Lisbon Monday and Tuesday in a battle of the favorites to win the ITCL White Division.
Brandon Johnston got the win in game 1. Johnston pitched 5 innings giving up 1 unearned run on only 5 hits. He walked 3 and struck out 1. Offensively, the Clippers only managed 4 hits but drew 2 walks and were hit by 4 pitches. Mitch Davidson, Keenan Green, Dylan Davin and Josh Herbert collected hits for Columbiana. Green drove in 2 runs and had a double.
In game 2, Ben Taylor battled around control problems but held Liberty to only 2 hits and made big pitches when he needed them to earn the victory for the Clippers. On the day Taylor pitched 4 innings giving up 2 earned runs, striking out 3 and walking 8. The bats came alive in game two as Columbiana pounded out 12 hits en route to scoring 15 runs. Nate Armstrong led the way collecting 3 hits including a double, scoring 4 runs and knocking in 2. Keenan Green and Tim Davin each had 2 hits and a double. Davin had 3 RBI’s and Green scored 3 runs. Every player in the lineup scored at least 1 run.
The Clippers will travel to Lisbon on Monday and the Blue Devils will come to Firestone Park on Tuesday.
