Davidson’s Gem leads Clippers to Victory

Box Score

Mitch Davidson threw a 1 hit shutout to lead the Clippers (1-2, 1-0) to a 3-0 league victory over the Southern Indians (0-3, 0-1) Tuesday evening.

Davidson went the distance in the pitchers duel striking out 8 and walking 2.  Southern’s Dominic Michael was excellent for the Indians striking out 12 in 6.1 innings giving up 3 runs on 3 hits.

With the game tied up at zero in the top of the seventh Dylan Davin led the inning off reaching on an error.  After moving to second base on a wild pitch Davin got to third on a ground ball hit by Josh Herbert.  Davin scored on another ground ball by Jake Clark.  Davin’s excellent slide at home ensured he would score the first run of the game.  Pinch runners Brandon Johnston and Vince Vivo also scored runs for the Clippers on a ground out and a sacrifice fly by Seth Ross that rounded out the scoring.  The three runs were all that Davidson would need as he was able to work around a lead off hit by pitch inducing a double play ground out to secure the victory for Columbiana.

Davin, Clark and Ross each collected one hit for the Clippers on the afternoon.

Columbiana and Southern will battle it out again on Wednesday at Firestone Park.  Jake Clark takes the bump for the Clippers looking to go 2-0 in league play.  First pitch is scheduled for 5 pm.
