With the rain missing Columbiana, Ohio on Thursday afternoon the Clippers and the Blue Devils of Western Reserve were able to battle it out to a 14-9 victory for Western Reserve. Zach Fahs took the bump for the Clippers. Fahs pitched six innings giving up 7 runs (3 earned) while striking out 1 and only walking 1. Tim Davin took the loss while Josh Herbert also pitched an inning in relief.
The game featured 23 runs, 25 hits and 15 errors as both teams had their ups and downs during the young season. After trailing for most of the game Columbiana was able to tie up the game in the 6th with RBI’s from Seth Ross, Keenan Green and Dylan Davin. Unfortunately, for the Clippers the Blue Devils strung together 5 hits without an out to take a 14-7 advantage into the bottom half of the seventh. Columbiana scraped together 2 more runs but that was all they had in the slug fest.
Leading the way at the plate for Columbiana was Mitch Davidson who collected 3 hits, scored 2 runs and knocked in 1. Green and Ross each collected two hits with the latter knocking in 2 runs with a single in the 2nd inning.
Columbiana is back in action tomorrow when the Sebring Trojans come to town. Ben Taylor will take the mound for the Clippers. First pitch is scheduled for 5 pm.
