Columbiana (9-8) traveled to Painesville on Saturday to take on the Division 1 Riverside Beavers (8-4) in non-conference baseball action. Riverside defeated the Clippers 10-0 on the afternoon.
The Clippers played well but were done in by good Riverside defense and 10 walks by the pitching staff. Columbiana pitchers Matt Weidner (0-2) and Tim Davin only gave up 5 hits, but the 10 walks and two hit by pitches led to the 10 runs.
Offensively, the Clippers continued to put the ball in play but Riverside was solid on the defense end turning a double play and holding Columbiana to only two hits. Zach Frenger collected both hits on the afternoon for the Clippers while Mitch Davidson and Drew Cyrus each drew a walk.
Columbiana is back in action Monday afternoon when the Red and White take on the Bears of Leetonia in an ITCL White Division Battle. The Clippers enter the game with a perfect 5-0 league record while Leetonia is 2-2.
