Columbiana (7-7) moved to 4-0 in the ITCL White Division with an 8-4, 8 inning victory over the Lisbon Blue Devils on a windy Tuesday afternoon. Devin Rice (3-0) picked up the victory for the Clippers throwing 7 strong innings giving up 4 runs (2 ER), striking out 10 and walking only 1 (intentional). Drew Cyrus finished the game, pitching a perfect 8th inning, securing the win.
Lisbon took an early lead in the 1st inning scoring 2 run on 4 hits. Columbiana cut the lead in half in the 2nd when Tim Davin led of the inning with a single and later moved to second on a groundout. Austin Saverko ripped a double to center scoring Davin, leaving the score at 2-1.
In the 4th inning, the Clippers were able plate 3 and grab a 4-1 lead. Dylan Davin got things started with an infield single followed by a single by Saverko. Both runners moved up on a passed ball and Davin scored on a Drew Cyrus sacrifice fly. Matt Weidner then ripped a single bringing in Saverko. After stealing second Weidner scored on an error by the Blue Devil shortstop on a Mitch Davidson ground ball.
The Blue Devil’s tied the game up in the 5th, plating 2 runs, but the inning could have been bigger for Lisbon. With 1 out and runners on the corners, Rice was able to induce a ground ball double play to get out of the inning. Saverko started the play moving to his left and snagging the grounder. He then threw a perfect throw to Weidner at 2nd who made a good turn getting the runner at first by a few steps after a good pick by 1st baseman Josh Herbert.
The score stayed 4-4 until the 8th inning. In the 8th, Cyrus finished off a good at bat by drawing a walk. Both Weidner and Davidson were hit by pitches to load the bases with 1 out. Keenan Green then roped a single to right scoring Cyrus and Weidner. Tim Davin walked and following a strikeout, Dylan Davin hit a well place blooper to left bringing home Davidson and Green giving the Clippers the 8-4 advantage.
The Clippers are back in action Wednesday as they travel to Southern Local to take on the Indians. First pitch is scheduled for 5 pm.
