A dominant pitching performance and timely hitting lead the Clippers Varsity (6-5, 3-0 ITCL White) to a 10-0 five inning defeat of the Southern Indians on a rain soaked afternoon at Firestone Park on Thursday afternoon.
Columbiana jumped out to an early 4-0 lead on Southern in the first inning. With 2 outs, Keenan Green reached on an error by the Indians right fielder. Tim Davin followed with a walk and Devin Rice reached on an error to load the bases for Dylan Davin. Davin walked bringing in Green to give Columbiana a 1-0 lead. Austin Saverko and Zach Frenger also eached walked scoring Davin and Rice. Drew Cyrus rounded out the scoring with an RBI single that brought home Dylan Davin while Saverko was thrown out at home plate.
The Clippers tacked on 4 more runs in the second and 2 in the third to build the commanding 10-0 lead. On the day, Columbiana was led at the plate by Tim Davin who was 2-2 with 2 RBI’s. Dylan Davin collected a double on the afternoon and knocked in 2 runs. Austin Saverko led the team with 3 RBI’s on the day including a 2 run double that he knocked off the fence.
On the mound Mitch Davidson faced the minimum allowing only one hit on the day. Davidson struck out 3 and was very efficient all afternoon allowing only 1 walk. Davidson was aided by some good defense including strong efforts by Saverko and Rice.
The Clippers are back in action tomorrow when they travel to Southern to take on the Indians in the second game of the home and home series. First pitch is slated for 5 pm.
